Wikia to complete with Google Search?

Wikipedia founder recently announced plans to go after the search engine market with a new way of managing search. The search engine would be community developed similar to how Wiki’s are run, which would give more power to publishers over the search results. It is an interesting concept, I’m not sure it would work but considering how popular Wikipedia has become who am I to say if this guy thinks it can work.
