Keep your data secure with TrueCrypt

Wanted to point out some great open-source (FREE) software that you can use to ensure your data stays secure. TrueCrypt disk encryption software creates a virtual disk (think d:\) when mounted, but otherwise appears as a single random file. So for example say your laptop is stolen and someone manages to hack your password- anything stored in the encrypted volume will remain safe and hidden. Your encrypted data would also be safe if someone was able to access your files over a network share. I’m using it myself and love it- however I only recommend for more advanced users.
Good post JJ, I use TrueCrypt myself. One additional noteable feature is the ability to encrypt a USB drive. So if you carry one around with you, you can encrypt the contents, and even make it self executing so you can view your files securely on any PC.
Great add Michael…I can’t believe I failed to mention that in the original post. Nice catch…agree completely- that is one of the best uses of TrueCrypt for sure.
