So just finished my latest book. I’m starting to forget what it’s like to read fiction now. As part of my new healthy lifestyle changes, I thought The No Sweat Exercise Plan by Harvey B Simon MD of the Harvard Medical Schoool would be a good book to read. Not that I’m really looking for no sweat exercise only, considering I run or bike every morning, I thought the basis of the book would give some good additional ways to exercise on a daily basis.

I’d give the book 3 out of 5 stars overall as it had some good valuable information, but it also didn’t really give me too much of what I hoped it would which is ideas for little ways to exercise throughout the day. The only real good suggestion I thought was to always take the stairs if you work in a multi-floor office building. However I already do that and ironically when I bought the book I thought to myself “oh this can show me other ways to quick exercise in throughout the day like how I take the stairs instead of the elevator.” Oh well. I always could tell that this author’s intended audience is a bit older than me, I felt he was talking to people in their 50’s, not 20’s much of the time.

It did have some great info though on the importance of cardiometabolic exercises (CME) with charts showing how many CME points you get for certain activities. That was valuable for me as I try and sort out a good exercise plan. I also liked how it showed some good strength and flexibility exercises illustrated, I’ve actually implemented more than a few of them into my morning routines. Lastly I really enjoyed one of the chapter on nutrition, in fact so much so that I purchased another Harvard Medical School book called Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy.

I’m now already halfway through my next book, The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. Absolutely LOVING IT so far!
