If you’ve read this blog you know that by now I’m a big fan of Randy Pausch. I just think he’s an incredible man who is dealing with a situation that is unthinkable. For those with their heads in the sand, Randy Pausch is a well respected Computer Science professor at Carnegie Mellon who was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given 3-6 months to live. Lucky for us he’s made it through 6 months and has helped to teach millions around the globe how to live out their childhood dreams thanks to the popularity of a video from his “Last Lecture” on the Internet. More than achieving your dreams, I think he’s taught us how to live our lives to the fullest, while reminding us all what is really important and should be focused on. If you are completely lost and don’t know what I’m talking about, check out this post, and then if you like what you see check out this post.
Now back to the book, I’ll admit that the book just contains much of what you may have already seen in his Last Lecture video, if you wanted the full hour one. However to me it’s great reinforcement, and there’s something about reading it that makes the statements more powerful because you can close the book for a minute and envision how you can apply the lessons to your own life. For me it’s a book that I know I’ll read multiple times and especially when it’s my time to become a father. Whenever that may be…
It’s a book that I only wish the entire world would read because I honestly think we’d be living in a better place if that happened. So in other words….I kinda liked it.
By the way, my favorite Randy line: “We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand”
