Book Review: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
April 6th, 2008 by jay
I finished this book over a month ago on our trip to Denver but forgot to post my review on here.
So I must start by saying how I give much credit to this book in a recent post regarding some changes in my life. Over the past 3 months I’m proud to say I’ve made changes such as becoming a morning person, exercising everyday, eating much healthier, decluttering the house, and just getting things done. The best thing is that I’m truely ENJOYING these changes. I’m not by any means giving all credit to the book, but it did honestly help give me a push and direction, although I still give a ton of credit to the blog Zen Habits but that’s another story.
Back to the book, I personally thought it was a great self-help book that may provide valuable lessons you can immediately apply to your life. It definitely makes you think about what goals are really important in life and then how you can work to achieve them. Here are the seven steps:
1) Be Proactive
2) Begin with the End in Mind
3) Put First Things First
4) Think Win/Win
5) Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
6) Synergize
7) Sharpen the Saw
I’ll be the first to admit I haven’t immediately started practicing all seven of these habits, I fully expect to pick up this book years down the road and read it again or at least the steps I feel I still need work on. For me I really tried to run strong with the first three right now. It was those steps that I think helped give me a kick in the butt. They made me realize how I’m wasting too much time on things that aren’t really important and how I need to start RIGHT NOW on doing things I believe are most important to me. Considering the results, I’d say the book was “highly effective” for me!
Has anyone else out there read this book? Over 15 million have been sold so there’s gotta be a few of you out there!
